Introduction

The Housekeeping Department is one of the core departments in a hotel. It ensures cleanliness, hygiene, comfort, and maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas. A well-managed housekeeping department contributes to guest satisfaction and the overall reputation of the hotel.

The department is managed by the Executive Housekeeper and is divided into sub-departments to ensure efficient operation.


1. Main Role of Housekeeping Department

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in guest rooms, corridors, lobbies, and public areas.
  • Ensure functional maintenance of furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with front office, F&B, and maintenance departments for smooth operations.
  • Provide guest services like turndown service, laundry, and lost & found management.

2. Sub-Departments of Housekeeping

a) Guest Floor / Room Division

  • Function: Cleaning and maintaining guest rooms, suites, and corridors.
  • Staff: Floor Supervisors, Room Attendants, Housepersons.
  • Special Note: Includes turn-down service and room inspections.

b) Public Area Division

  • Function: Maintains lobby, corridors, elevators, lounges, restrooms, and conference halls.
  • Staff: Public Area Supervisor, Cleaners, Housepersons.
  • Special Note: Ensures first impressions of guests are always positive.

c) Laundry / Linen Section

  • Function: Handles washing, ironing, folding, and distribution of hotel linen and guest laundry.
  • Staff: Laundry Supervisor, Laundry Attendants.
  • Special Note: Maintains linen inventory and quality standards.

d) Uniform / Staff Room Section

  • Function: Provides staff uniforms, cleaning and repair of uniforms, and keeps staff rooms tidy.
  • Staff: Uniform Supervisor, Attendants.

e) Floor Supervisors & Control Office

  • Function: Supervises cleaning operations, assigns tasks, and maintains schedules.
  • Staff: Floor Supervisors, Housekeeping Control Staff.

f) Lost & Found Section

  • Function: Handles items left behind by guests, including safe storage and recording.
  • Staff: Lost & Found Attendants, Supervisors.

g) Mini-Bar / Room Amenities Section (optional)

  • Function: Replenishes mini-bars, guest supplies, and in-room amenities.
  • Staff: Mini-bar attendants, Supervisors.
